Ritsumeikan University was established in 1869 as a private academy on the site of the Kyoto Imperial Palace by Prince Kinmochi Saionji, an eminent international statesman of modern Japan. It was then given the status of a university in 1922.
Ritsumeikan University now offers a wide range of courses in advanced studies in three campuses: Kinugasa Campus in Kyoto, Biwako-Kusatsu Campus in Shiga, and Osaka Ibaraki Campus in Osaka.
It promotes education and research collaboration with world-class universities and institutions. The number of partner schools is top-class in Japan.
