2025 Ritsumeikan Data Science Program

Data Science Program at Ritsumeikan University (OIC Campus)

We are pleased to offer a new Data Science Program at Ritsumeikan University. This will be the first year of the program, and all classes will take place at our Osaka Ibaraki Campus (OIC) and Biwako Kusatsu Campus(BKC). Students will be taught in English.
Accommodation will be provided at the OIC Seminar House, where students will stay in shared rooms for four people.
Our faculty members will teach in English, covering topics related to generative AI, robotics, and data science. Students will study themes such as:

●Biological Inspirations and Engineering Applications
●Foundations of Machine Learning
●Introduction to Research in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Text Mining

As the number of seats is limited, we encourage you to apply early.
This program is open only to current university and graduate students. All you need is a little courage to take the next step.

Accommodation

All participants will stay at the OIC Seminar House, located on the Ritsumeikan University OIC Campus. Rooms are shared by four students of the same gender. The accommodation fee for the OIC Seminar House is included in the program cost. The Seminar House is an educational facility of the university, so all students are expected to follow the rules during their stay.

Under graduate, graduate, and PhD students
*You must be enrolled in a university during the application to the entire program period.
*High school students and younger are not eligible.
*Classes are conducted entirely in English.

*We only accept payments via international bank transfer. No WISE avaiavble.

Fees included:

Course materials prepared by instructors, Ritsumeikan Buddy, Orientation, Campus Tour, Completion Certificate, Completion Ceremony, Visa support (if applicable), Library access (browsing only), Wi-Fi access, Travel insurance, OIC Seminar House usage fee.

Fees not included:

Round-trip travel expenses (such as airfare), airport pick-up and drop-off, local transportation fees in the Osaka area, meals, passport-related costs, short-term stay visa fee (not a student visa), and other personal expenses.

This program offers a short-term data science experience at Ritsumeikan University’s OIC Campus. Participants will learn topics such as generative AI, robotics, machine learning, and NLP through classes taught in English by our faculty members. Students will also join campus activities, meet Ritsumeikan students, and enjoy a supportive study environment. Accommodation at the OIC Seminar House is provided for all participants. If the program reaches its capacity, we may close the registration early. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Additionally, the purchase or use of any wheeled vehicles, such as cars, motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, or skateboards, is not allowed.

Please submit the photo page of your passport.
Your photo, birth date, and nationality must be clear.
If it is currently under application, please specify "Currently Applying" and state estimated date to obtain on a substitute paper and upload.

Certificate(Enrollment/Transcript)

Please obtain certificate of enrollment and academic transcript from your home institution and submit.
This program is only open to university students. High school students and younger are not eligible to participate.

Accommodation

We will provide access to the OIC Seminar House, which is a university facility.
Only program participants are allowed to use this facility.
The usage fee is included in the program cost.
All participants are expected to use the Seminar House during the program.
Please note that no refund will be made even if a participant chooses not to use the Seminar House for any reason.

The Seminar House is located in the centre of the OIC Campus.
Convenience stores, student cafeterias, bank ATMs, coffee shops, restaurants, and a supermarket are all close by.
There is also a large park right in front of the building, providing a very comfortable environment.
The campus is within walking distance from both JR and Hankyu stations, offering excellent access to central Kyoto and Osaka.

What We Offer

Completion Certificate


Each student will be required to attend more than 2/3 of classes to receive a Completion Certificate.
●Official transcript is not issued in the RDSP. This is a non degree seeking program.

Medical Service Center

The Medical Service Center offers medical assistance to students with health concerns. Consultations are available in English during certain times of the day.

At the Study Abroad Center, we handle consultations for short-term study abroad programs and are responsible for planning and operating these programs. If you encounter any issues or need advice during your program participation, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Our office is located on the first floor of Meigakukan.

Ritsumeikan Buddy

What is a buddy?
Buddies from Ritsumeikan University will be here for you to support your life at Ritsumeikan. It will not be a 1-on-1 system but they will assist you in groups by speaking only in Japanese for you to fully immerse in the Japanese language.

What’s the merit?
You will have opportunity to interact directly with local students and practice Japanese and learn about Japanese culture such as recent Japanese pop culture, trending words, anime, and many other topics. You might also be able to find life-long friends!
